Compassion for the victims of the Myanmar earthquake: How You Can Help
A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025—forever altering thousands of lives in an instant.
People are searching for their loved ones. Neighbors turned into rescuers. Whole communities are coming together to help.
In times like this, compassion matters just as much as equipment.
Behind every number, there’s a story—of survival, of courage, and of people showing up for each other.
Stories of hope, bravery and compassion
Sky News has released footage of a family trapped under the rubble, waiting for help after a building collapsed in Myanmar’s earthquake.
The footage was taken inside Sky Village condominiums, a residential complex that also housed hotels and schools. The earthquake reduced it to ruins.
A man standing outside feared the worst—believing his two daughters, ages 13 and 16, and his elderly mother had died in the collapse. Miraculously, they survived thanks to the relentless efforts of a rescue team.
Guilaume D'Agaro, an English teacher in Yangon, described how terrified young children—some as young as three—clung to each other in fear. Meanwhile, hospital staff shielded newborns, ensuring their survival during the tremors.
Rescue teams stretched to the breaking point
Search-and-rescue teams, already operating with limited resources, were overwhelmed by the scale of devastation.
"People were screaming, ‘Help me!" said one responder, part of a citizen-led rescue group working tirelessly in the disaster zone.
